Native American Headdresses

Traditional headdresses are traditionally worn by male leaders of the American Plains Indians Nations who have earned a place of great respect in their tribe. Only the most brave and powerful of the tribe wore headdresses. Originally they were sometimes worn into battle, but they are now primarily used for ceremonial occasions.

Obama Honoured With Conical Hat

Obama, for those who are checking, is not the first commander in chief to sport tribal headwear. Calvin Coolidge, who signed the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, was adopted into the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in 1927 when he was visiting South Dakota’s Black Hills.
